Recently the local newspaper and DKMS newsletter announced some exciting changes that will be occurring in our building. We are looking at redesigning our school district to create an upper elementary beginning in the 2010-2011 school year. As our first steps in this endeavor, small advisory groups of teachers, parents, board members and community people met this week to design a series of meetings to be held throughout the spring to facilitate the process.
Be on the look out for the date of the community forum that will be held in March. Once the date is set, we will work to post the information in a variety of locations to spread the word. When you see it - be sure to pass it on! Thanks in advance for helping us to spread the word. After each meeting we plan to distribute a "Did You Know" communication with answers to questions and topics of concern that many of you share. For example, some of the topics already brainstormed include: creating a welcoming environment, addressing car and bus traffic patterns, improving recess/playground usage, managing lunch/cafeteria times, offering specials, nurturing developmentally appropriate learning and social environments, considering classroom placement within the building, creating unique identities for the upper elementary and the middle school, placing new signage and a variety of other topics. These types of topics will be addressed through a series of public meetings to be held throughout the spring. We thank the parent advisory committee who has already met to get this ball rolling. We look forward to others of you assisting us at the public meetings.
